The Peruvian slender snake (Tachymenis peruviana) also called the Peruvian short tailed snake is the highest elevation dwelling snake in the Americas ranging up to 4600m asl. It is a secretive snake that feeds mostly on amphibians. It is rear fanged and slightly venomous but reports of human fatalities following bites of this species are greatly exaggerated and should not be believed.
