The Amazon tree boa (Corallus hortulana) is one of several constrictor species that can be found in the Amazon. Along with the emerald tree boa, this one occupies a niche in the rainforest canopy only rarely venturing down to ground level.
The Amazon wood lizard (Enyalioides laticeps) relies on its excellent camouflage to stay hidden in the verdant rainforest. Active during the day, they may sit motionless keeping an eye on their surroundings until they spot a tasty bug.
Trichonephila clavipes (formerly known as Nephila clavipes) or the golden orb weaver. The sexual dimorphism in this species is among the greatest in the animal kingdom with males being approximately 1/70th the mass of females. They live in the female's web feeding on her scraps. Until the females are receptive to mating which happens for approximately 48 hours following her final molt. Here a newly molted female and the male spider on her abdomen mating.
