Sarcodes sanguinea - the Snow Plant, is a parasitic plant with no chlorophyll so no ability to photosynthesize. It gets nutrients from the fungi and roots of other plants. This species can be found growing in forests in the Sierra Nevada mountains of the West. Although it is not thought to be carnivorous it traps insects on sticky filaments. This may attract insect predators that then help protect the plant from insect pests.
