A developing California newt (Taricha torosa) in the shallows of a cattle pond in the East bay area. Soon this embryo will develop gills and eyes and break free of the gelatinous membrane to start its life in the water.
Larval California newts (Taricha torosa) that are very close to hatching into the surrounding water. Very small they will have to evade predatory bugs and hungry adults while themselves hunting down copepods and other micro fauna to feed on.
A female bobcat (Lynx rufus) bring back a gopher for her kitten - she did not immediately find the kitten so cached the gopher in leaf litter instead. After calling the kitten to her and reuniting she chose to consume the whole gopher herself.
