After a record low number of overwintering butterflies in the 2020-21 winter season, and fears of population extirpation some good news! In the 2021-22 season, the numbers of butterflies increased exponentially from the previous year from ~2,000 to 247,000! In fact, it was the most butterflies observed in 5 years! However, its not all good news as this is still less than 5% of the numbers seen as recently as the 1980s.
