    A bobcat (Lynx rufus) mother and kitten sit on a pile of rocks which gives them a slightly elevated view of the surrounding hills and fields.

The momcat only had this one kitten who did not yet seem to be hunting for itself as the mother brought back gophers for it. However, it is getting to the age where soon it will have to fend for itself.
    Breeding California newts (Taricha torosa) drift amidst aquatic vegetation in a muddy cow pond in the East Bay region of California.  The male (above) will hold onto the female (below) rubbing his chin on her and wafting his tail - if she is charmed he will deposit a spermatophore on the pond bottom which she will pick up to fertilize her eggs.
