    California quail (Callipepla californica) are California's state bird.  They often move around in large groups called coveys but this male was alone - he would forage in the nearby leaflitter before taking up a high spot  to survey the surroundings from this old stone fence.
    Although not native to the region, wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo) have become a common sight in much of the San Francisco Bay area.
